The family & descendants web site is undergoing renovations to be completed by end March 2010 It will have updated and additional information for all to see, search and add to with all the new family descendant members who have come from all sources over the last 12 months. It will hopefully, along with this blog serve all the members and descendants. Additionally, we hope it may be become a touch point for those who seek to add all the bits and pieces that we may not know as yet.
So why not leave a note, or comment, or email us with your comments or contributions, and keep the interest in our ancestry moving along. We are all part of the ongoing living history of an interesting and now very large AUSTRALIAN FAMILY

Right now, I know little of blogs or blogging at all, I'm also supposed to be too old to learn or fool about with this stuff, but here I go on another "discovery" trip..... and hope that this becomes a small forum for those who may have an interest in the Australian Story of Joseph Wright & Ellen and their descendants. It's often said Australia has such a short history... perhaps, but it certainly does not lack colour. And we certainly have a bit of that, both past & current.
So gather up and find why Eureka Wright was given her name, find out about her husband's connection to the famous or infamous Ned Kelly.
Who was who and when? How did it happen? Why did they move? What about Tasmania? What about (my 4th GGGrandfather) Capt John Townson and the building of the "Norfolk" which was fundamental to the proof of Tasmania (then Van Dieman's land of course) existing as an island. Our family has witnessed or been part of all the major events in Australian European settlement, - the good & bad bits too!
Love to hear from any who may add or comment on areas of our common interest.

Is it true that Ned Kelly knew Eureka Wright? How can I find out?
We know of no will document of Ellen Gott's. We will try to establish just how the information shown in michael Flynn's book "The Second Fleet" came about

Hi, Thanks to Marionfor lerting me to yor site. congratulations on getting this site up and running, it is great, and I have introduced some others to it.
When I can, then I will contribute, but it is not easy to do so right now, but you are tired of hearing that line - Bruce (son of Gordon, son of George, son of Samuel, son of samuel, son of Joseph)
To answer anonymous' question, family legend (and now printed history, History of Toongabbie) has it that Eureka's husband Walter Power was a friend of Ned Kelly's when Ned was working down in Gippsland at a timber mill. The story has been told through four generations and it is a great point of conversation, but the truth of it remains buried with our ancestors.
Posted by one of Eureka & Walter's great grandchildren.
A verifying source may be from the book; "NED KELLY a short life" by Ian Jones an acknowledged Kelly authority with a lifetime of Kelly research.
Ref: ISBN 0 85091 836 7 - 1995, 96, & 1999, see pages 78 - 80
That will do me for now on old Ned. Maybe Walter was smart enough to leap into Eureks's arms instead of furthering the relationship with Ned Kelly and I don't see anyone to disprove Jones' assertions too readily. Maybe a letter to Ian Jones would reveal his sources.
Ned Kelly was a gentleman compared to Michael Howe ! What about this one?
Interesting how many of the early family seemed to know some interesting folk, Like Joseph Wright's connection in Tasmania with the notorius murdering bushranger, Michael Howe. Verified by affadavit and printed by Bonwick and Marcus Clarke. The affadavit regarding Joseph Wright and Michael Howe places Joseph as perhaps a captive of Howe in late November 1816. Certainly Joseph Wright knew Michael Howe and like many perhaps had reason to both fear and perhaps assist him.
I can supply further references and indeed email those interested with the wonderful full text, beautifully written account from Marcus Clarkes reprinted account from the Australasian weekly which were reprinted by Marcus Clarke under the title: "Old Tales of a Young Country"
Very interesting stuff about very rugged times indeed.

Just found your web site and I love it, I’m not sure how I am connected though, I have attached a document containing how I am connected to the Wiltons as I see we share some of the same people.

Mr. Wright: First let me tell you that I have seen your genealogy website and think that it is one of the best I have seen! Congratulations on the wonderful work you have done putting it all together.
As to the reason for this contact, I wonder if you know what the "B" is an initial for in your ancestor's name. I have been looking for several years for a Francis B. Morley who was my husband's ggrandfather. Born in England and was, at least for a while, in the British army. His I have found him once as a 2nd lieutenant in 1891, then again in York in 1899, applying for a marriage license. Other than that, nothing. If you could cast aany light for me, I would appreciate it.
Thank you, Faith Morley
I found your profile on Ancestry - requesting more informationHello! I have recently joined this website (Ancestry site) as part of the "30 day free trial" offer and was amazed to find you had already done half of my research!! I have married a Maher, the son of Ron Maher, who was the son of Kenneth George Maher. I was just wondering what documents you used to find all of these wonderful details, and if you have any more information you may be able to share with us. Thank you for all the work you have done so far!

The author of josephwrightdescendants.blogspot.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: The people who are actually going to be interesting aren't going to give you meaningful answers to a/s/l anyway. Thanks for the info.
My name is Ben Jeffries 13/12/89 I am a descendant of Joseph Wright and my father is David Maxwell Jeffries 15/6/50 how do I get my name on the list and how to I tell my family cousins where to send information to be listed as well. Could someone advise me on my email benstoocool@hotmail.com.
Thanks Ben
I am the great grand-daughter of Thomas George Wright, born in Pitt Town in 1853 (before births needed to be registered). I can find no record of his birth through Church documents (guided by Michelle NIcholls of Hawkesbury H.S) , but on his death certificate it listed his mother as Hobbs and his father as Wright, a farmer.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE who knows of a Hobbs girl who married a Wright boy?
Thank you, Lindy Wright silverbangle333aathotmail.com
has there been any development in relation to Ellen Gott's Will? Also, whereabouts is the list of descendants? P
